Cullinan Diamond

In 1905, a large diamond of 3106.75 carats was discovered,

making it the largest diamond discovered in the world.

The diamond was named the “Cullinan Diamond”
having the same name as Sir Thomas Cullinan.

The British who owned the diamond mines excavated, Cullinan Diamond were purchased by the colonial government of Trasvar. 1907 King Edward VII's birthday. At that time, the Transwar colony wanted to find a way to reconcile with Britain because it had just experienced the Second Boer War. Therefore, the government believes that giving valuable diamonds in the name of the people will be a sign of reconciliation and loyalty.
Since then, Collinan Diamond have symbolized hope, friendship,
and cooperation between the giver and receiver.

The Cullinan Diamond was cut by Joseph Asser, the owner of the Royal Asscher Diamond Company, which took six months for Joseph to cut.

The Cullinan diamond is divided and cut into 9 large diamonds and 98 smaller diamonds.
All 9 large diamonds are set into the setting. and name them sorted by size.

530.20 Carats

The diamond is cut in a pear shape. "The Great Star of Africa" At present, it is used to decorate the cross scepter (the scepter of the King of England), which is one of the royal weapons of England.

317.40 Carats

Cushion-cut diamonds are adorned at the base of the Imperial State Crown. This is the crown worn after the coronation ceremony when the new monarch leaves Westminster Abbey. Queen Elizabeth II wears the Imperial State Crown every year at the opening ceremony of the UK Parliament.

94.4 Carats

The diamond, cut in a pear cut. It was originally used as the main diamond adorning the Delhi Durbar Tiara of Mary, wife of George V, son of Edward VII.

63.3 Carats

The diamond is cushion cut. This diamond was previously used for the Delhi Durbar Tiara and Cullinan III bezel set on the brooch. Both diamonds are nicknamed “Granny's Chips” by members of the royal family because they were inherited from Her Royal Highness Princess Mother.

18.8 Carats

The diamond is heart cut. It's a platinum brooch made in 1911 to be dedicated to Mary. This is one of the special jewelry newly made during the coronation ceremony of the Queen of India.

The diamond is marquise cut. It is used as a setting on a brooch. The top of the case is set with the Cullinan VIII.

8.8 Carats

The diamond is marquise cut. It was a gift from Edward VII to Alexandra. His wife later passed it on to his daughter-in-law Mary. Mary used this diamond as a pendant in her Delhi Durbar Necklace with Cullinan VII Pendant.

6.8 Carats

The diamond is cushion cut. It is used as a brooch, which is worn in conjunction with the Cullinan VI.

4.4 Carats

The diamond is pear cut. It is made into Mary's ring finger. Currently, this ring is called
Cullinan IX Ring.

What's Delhi Durbar Tiara?

The Delhi Durbar Tiara is created to replace the Queen of England's crown. When King George V of the United Kingdom. Mary, the wife of King George V, came to India to be crowned as the emperor and queen of India because England has a rule that prohibits taking the regalia of the United Kingdom out of the country. Therefore, a new crown and tiara had to be created to be worn at the ceremony.

Now, The Delhi Durbar Tiara is inherited from Mary. She ordered the removal of the Cullinan Diamond and turned it into a brooch.
